Comparison of a solid phase human- versus porcine- thyrotropin receptor-based immunoassay for the measurement of thyrotropin rec
Sat, 09/06/2008 - 11:18Exp Clin Endocrinol Diabetes 2008; 116: S59-S63DOI: 10.1055/s-2008-1081491AbstractThyrotropin receptor (TSHR) antibody (TRAb) assays based on human or porcine TSHR which are coated to a solid phase are the most commonly used detection methods in clinical practice for patients with thyroid diseases. Yet the difference of the diagnostic values of the two TRAb assays is largely unclear.
Distribution of immunoglobulin g subclasses of anti-thyroid peroxidase antibody in sera from patients with hashimoto's thyroidit
Sat, 09/06/2008 - 03:00The mechanism of disease progression in Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) is still unclear. Anti-thyroid peroxidase antibody (TPOAb), a diagnostic hallmark of HT, is principally of the immunoglobulin G (IgG) isotype, and it appears to be a response to thyroid injury. The aim of our study was to evaluate the distribution of IgG subclasses of TPOAb in sera from patients with HT with different thyroid functional status.

Ctla4 gene polymorphisms in children and adolescents with autoimmune thyroid diseases
Thu, 08/28/2008 - 10:22Genetic Testing Sep 2008, Vol. 12, No. 3: 461-464.
Two common forms of autoimmune thyroid diseases are Graves' disease and Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Cytotoxic T lymphocyte antigen 4 (CTLA4) encoded by the CTLA4 gene on chromosome 2q33 plays a role in susceptibility to Graves' disease and is probably ... Diagnostic pitfalls in the evaluation of fine needle aspiration cytology of the thyroid: correlation with histopathology in 260
Mon, 08/18/2008 - 03:00A. N. Haberal, S. Toru, Ö. Özen, Z. Arat and B. Bilezikçi Diagnostic pitfalls in the evaluation of fine needle aspiration cytology of the thyroid: correlation with histopathology in 260 casesObjectives: Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) of the thyroid is a non-invasive, cost-effective screening procedure that is valuable for distinguishing neoplastic lesions from non-neoplastic nodules.

The detection of antithyroglobulin activity in human serum monoclonal immunoglobulins (monoclonal gammopathies)
Fri, 08/08/2008 - 06:00Abstract The sera of 159 patients with monoclonal gammopathies were examined for the presence of anti-thyroglobulin (Tg) activity.
An enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was employed. Thirty-one (19.5%) sera were found to bind Tg. The activity against Tg
was further confirmed by using purified immunoglobulins and employing competition assays. The anti-Tg antibodies were found
in the sera of patients with IgG, IgM and IgA gammopathies. Anti-Tg antibodies were more frequent among patients with IgG
Statins decrease the aberrant hla-dr expression on thyrocytes from patients with hashimoto's thyroiditis
Thu, 08/07/2008 - 12:06Horm Metab ResDOI: 10.1055/s-2008-1081500AbstractStatins have been found to exert anti-inflammatory and immune modulatory effects. It seems likely that these drugs may improve thyroid function in patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT). The objective of our study was to investigate the effect of statins on HLA-DR (human leukocyte antigen D-related) expression of thyrocytes from patients with HT hypothyroidism. Thyroid tissues were obtained from surgical specimens.
