Prospective trial evaluating electrical impedance scanning of thyroid nodules before thyroidectomy: final results.
Sat, 04/26/2008 - 07:19
Thyroid fine needle aspiration and electrical impedance scanning (EIS) were performed on 216 patients before thyroidectomy in this prospective trial. EIS correctly diagnosed 87% of patients with malignant and 71% of patients with benign dominant thyroid nodules. Pretest cancer probability of 51% increased to 76% post-EIS. Preoperative use of EIS would result in a significant reduction in number of operations performed for benign thyroid nodules.Page: 843DOI: 10.1097/SLA.0b013e318165c757Authors: Nissan, Aviram MD *; Peoples, George E.
