Granulomatous and lymphocytic thyroiditis associated with a follicular adenoma

Abstract  A 44-year-old woman came to medical attention with right thyroid lobe enlargement and weight loss. Thyroid scan and ultrasound
demonstrated a nodule in the right thyroid lobe; a right hemithyroidectomy was performed. Histologic examination documented
granulomatous and lymphocytic thyroiditis associated with a follicular adenoma. No inflammation was apparent within the adenoma.

Virtual neck exploration in patients with hyperparathyroidism and former cervical operations

Abstract
Background  In surgery for primary hyperparathyroidism, preoperative localization together with intraoperative parathyroid hormone assay
is important when minimal invasive operations of the parathyroid glands are intended. In cases of reoperation, correct localization
of the abnormal parathyroid glands is extremely instrumental. Computed tomography (CT)–99mTc-sestamibi (MIBI)–single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) image fusion allows for a virtual exploration of the

Chronic autoimmune thyroiditis (hashimoto's thyroiditis) in patients with malt lymphoma

Background: Autoimmune diseases have been implicated in the genesis of MALT lymphoma of various localizations. The development of thyroidal MALT lymphoma has been described as an adverse event in patients suffering from long-standing chronic autoimmune thyroiditis (CAT, Hashimoto's thyroiditis). The percentage and possible association between CAT and extrathyroidal MALT lymphoma, however, have not been assessed so far.

Use of biclamp decreased the severity of hypocalcemia after total thyroidectomy compared with ligasure: a prospective study

Abstract
Background  Postoperative hypocalcemia is the most common complication after thyroidectomy. New surgical devices have been propose to
achieve vessel sealing and hemostasis. However, the risk of parathyroid glands damage has not been fully elucidated. This
prospective study was designed to evaluate the severity of hypocalcemia after total thyroidectomy by using two different sealing
devices.

Virilizing ovarian tumor in a 14-year-old female with a prior familial multinodular goiter

A 14-year-old female presented with intermittent abdominal pain, deepening of voice and amenorrhoea for 4 months. Twelve months earlier she had had a thyroidectomy because of familial multinodular goiter and had, subsequently, received substitution with L-thyroxine. At the time of admission, a high serum testosterone level was detected. The dexamethasone suppression test confirmed the hormonal autonomy and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) visualized a solid tumor within the left ovary. The pathological diagnosis after left salpingo-oophorectomy was Sertoli-Leydig cell tumor.
